1. 生肖/ 属相 —— Chinese zodiac

zodiac可以指西方的“星座”，前面加上Chinese，就可以指中国的生肖了。

(1). Dragon is the only animal in the Chinese zodiac that doesn’t exist in the natural world. 在十二生肖中，龙是唯一现实世界中不存在的动物。

(2) The Chinese zodiac features twelves animals. 十二生肖代表了12种动物。

(3). What’s your Chinese zodiac sign? 你属什么的？

(4). I’m a Pig in the Chinese zodiac. 我属猪。

关于“我属……”还有几种表达：

-I was born in/ under the Year of the Snake. 我属蛇（小龙）。

-My zodiac animal is Rooster. 我属鸡。

2. 本命年 —— animal year/ year of fate

今年是我的本命年有以下几种表达：

(1). This year is my year of fate.

(2). This year is my animal year.

(3). This year is my birth year.

(4). This year is my big year.

3. ……年 —— the Year of the + 属相。

(1). 2018 is the Year of the Dog. 2018年是狗年。

(2). Next year is the Year of the Pig. 明年是猪年。

2020年是我们中国的鼠年，如果要跟老外介绍我们中国特色的十二生肖，那么鼠年究竟用Mouse还是Rat呢？

一、我们先来看看剑桥词典给Mouse和Rat的定义：

①Mouse：a small mammal with short fur, a pointed face, and a long tail.

②Rat：a small rodent, larger than a mouse,that has a long tail and is considered to be harmful.

根据上面的定义，我们可以看出两者最直观的区别在于体型大小，rat比mouse大。

不过rat和mouse都可以表示老鼠、耗子，那究竟鼠年该用rat还是mouse？

二、我们再来看看豆瓣上之前关于这个问题的回答：

上面这个回答，总结起来有三点：

（1）、鼠年用Rat比用Mouse更普遍。

（2）、Mouse的形象更好，而Rat含有贬义。

（3）、Year of the Rat 可能是约定俗成的。

确实，关于鼠年很多的表达都是Year of the Rat，但为什么不用Year of the Mouse？除了褒贬义的不同，小编认为，可能mouse除了“老鼠、耗子”以外，还可以表示“鼠标”，为了避免误解，所以用rat。

可能有人会说，rat除了“老鼠、耗子”，也可以表示“卑鄙小人、叛徒”，怎么就不会引起误解？

确实，rat比喻形容人的时候，有“卑鄙小人、叛徒”的意思；不过mouse也可以指“胆小羞怯的人”。如果把它们比喻和引申的含义都拿来讨论，就更复杂冗赘了。
